‘Chupacabre’ Suspected To Have Attacked Over 50 Animals
Chile —
Ranchers in Chile are seeking help and answers after a series of attacks on llamas and alpacas by an unknown predatory animal. Possibly the Chupacabra, or in this case “Chupallama.”
Ranchers have tried to gain the attention of media and government officials since November 2020. The attacks took place three-kilometers west of Colchane, a border zone with Bolivia, occurring at night.
Officials investigated the events only to remove local suspects from suspicion. Juan Choque Choque, a ranch hand, said the following to the media.
“At first when two or three deaths appeared, we thought it was someone. But when more began to appear, we said how someone is going to be killing the young, if it does not suit anyone. No one could be so bad. And the deaths went on and on. My cousins tell me that it could be a creature called Chupacabra, who in the south years ago attacked a person leaving them unwell. It scared me and we put lights with solar panels to illuminate the pens and scare this animal away. I want them to find it so that it stops doing harm.”
Another rancher, Luis Choque, had this to say, “He makes a hole in them and not in the neck but in the side, he does not eat the meat, nor the entrails he has never seen anything like this. It attacks at night and the animals seem not to defend the young.”
The mayor of Colchane’s (Javier Gracia Choque) hired a team of “professionals” to examine the area and the body of the last victim. The Mayor has this to say to reporters.
“The professional could not conclude that it was a predator in the area, given the concerns of neighbors we will deliver all the information to the SAG so that they can conclude what type of animal it is and how to contain it. If necessary, we will send reports to other entities to help us find this creature.”
