I’d say it’s probably between 10 and 12 feet high

EDIT: Information from Google Maps has shown the Monolith was placed at the location sometime between August 2015 and January 2016.

The crew of a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter found a mysterious metal monolith while helping the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in a sheep count.

The flight took place over the vast Utah desert. The exact location of the monolith is being kept secret due to the dangerous and remote area is was discovered.

The crew, while counting bighorn sheep, were amazed at what they found.

“One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it,” pilot Bret Hutchings told KSLTV. “He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!’ And I was like, ‘what.’ And he’s like, ‘There’s this thing back there – we’ve got to go look at it!’”

Hidden in a rock cove stood a metal monolith. The crew said it looked as if the structure was dropped from the sky and planted firmly.

“We were, like, thinking is this something NASA stuck up there or something. Are they bouncing satellites off it or something?” Hutchings playfully questioned.

The crew reported that it didn’t appear to have any scientific purpose. The monolith looked to be manmade, a piece of art more than an artifact from an alien civilization.

“I’m assuming it’s some new wave artist or something or, you know, somebody that was a big (2001: A Space Odyssey) fan,” Hutchings said.
